Media Release – Regulation of Child Safe Standards in NSW

Child Safe Scheme Bill passed in NSW Parliament

Child Safeguard applauds the passing of the Child Safe Scheme Bill in NSW parliament today. The new regulation of Child Safe Standards means there will now be greater consistency in how organisations protect children because of new laws that implement the Child Safe Scheme. This is a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Monitor and Investigation Rights for the OCG

The Scheme gives the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) additional powers to monitor and investigate how organisations implement the Child Safe Standards. Additionally, this will support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Child Safeguard Commend the new Regulation of Child Safe Standards

Marco Blanco, Child Safeguard CEO, said, “We’re thrilled that the Child Safe Scheme Bill has been passed by NSW parliament. Today is a great day for children and young people across the State. Organisations will now be under obligation to implement the Child Safe Standards and create safer environments.

Implementation of the Child Safe Standards will enable organisations to focus on embedding preventative measures. This will minimise harm to children and young people in their care and enable them to flourish. In addition, Child Safeguard looks forward to continuing to work with our clients. Also to ensure they are demonstrating best practice in child safety.”
